Yes. Our cosmetic dentistry services are designed to improve the color, shape, alignment, and overall appearance of a patient’s smile. • help_outlineAre dental implants available at Pacific View Smile Center?
Yes. Dental implant services are available for patients who want to replace one or more missing teeth. Implants can support individual replacement teeth, crowns, bridges, or other dental restorations. We begin with an evaluation to determine whether implants are appropriate for the patient’s oral health, bone structure, and treatment goals.
    • help_outlineDoes Pacific View Smile Center offer Invisalign?
Yes. We offer Invisalign clear aligners for qualifying patients with crooked, crowded, spaced, or mildly misaligned teeth. Invisalign uses a customized series of removable, nearly transparent aligners to gradually reposition the teeth. An examination is necessary to determine whether clear aligners are the right option for a particular case.
    • help_outlineHow does Pacific View Smile Center help patients with dental anxiety?

    • help_outlineDoes Pacific View Smile Center accept dental insurance?
Our office works with a variety of dental insurance providers, but we are out of network with all insurance plans. Benefits and reimbursement can vary, so patients should contact our team before treatment to discuss their coverage and estimated out-of-pocket costs.
    • help_outlineWhat payment options are available at Pacific View Smile Center?
Payment options may include cash, checks, credit cards, and financing. Because every patient’s financial situation and treatment plan are different, we encourage patients to speak with our office about the payment arrangements that may be available for their care.

    • help_outlineWhat should a new patient expect at the first dental appointment?
A first visit may include a review of the patient’s dental and medical history, a discussion of current symptoms or concerns, a dental examination, and any necessary diagnostic imaging. After evaluating the patient’s oral health, we explain our findings and discuss recommended preventive or restorative treatment.
    • help_outlineWhat patient centered amenities does Dr. Sakurai utilize to help the patient experience?
We are always looking for ways to make our patients more comfortable in our office. We offer aromatherapy for those who are not sensitive to them. A recent NIH study found that certain essential oils can help with decreasing anxiety similar to Xanax and some can decrease pain and inflammation from osteoarthritis. UCLA Integrative medicine has been utilizing these non-pharmaceutical means since 2020 and we are offering them as well to give patients a more peaceful experience based on backed clinical research.
    • help_outlineWhy are my medications important for a dentist to know? It’s none of their business.
It’s important for your dentist to know the medications you are on. They can affect your treatment and help your dentist be a healthcare team member for your physicians.

Dr. Sakurai was the first dentist to serve on the UCLA Heart-Lung transplant team after she saw that patients with dental infections during an organ transplant became critically ill while undergoing immunosuppressant therapy to sustain their new organ that in turn kept them alive. So by writing the first protocol that is now nationally accepted as best practice and outcomes for transplant patients, all pre organ transplant patient have a dental clearance examination to assure that there are no dental infections that can cause known complications to transplant success and survival.

Dr. Sakurai also wrote a case study at UCLA on osteonecrosis of the maxilla or upper jaw. Until that time it was thought that you can’t get bone death of the upper jaw because the blood supply was good. But that was not true. Dr. Sakurai, in collaboration with the UCLA Hospital Dentistry team, recognized that the gum tissue over the bone looked good but that didn’t necessarily reflect the health of the bone underneath. This is also true of the drug induced osteonecrosis we see in patients with osteoporosis. So, if you are on a bone density drug, such as a bisphosphonate like Zometa. You should NOT have any extractions.
    • help_outline“I only need to get my teeth cleaned once a year… I don’t have problems…”
It’s not just a cleaning… It’s preventative maintenance. Every six months we check for lumps, bumps, and lymph nodes that may indicate early signs of cancer or infections. Early detection, especially in head and neck cancers, are key to survival. Other medical conditions or drugs can change your odds of being more susceptible to these situations.

Life changes quickly so maintaining good oral health by decreasing the bacteria exposure into your body through the blood stream and your gums is important to your health and well-being. Your immune system can have the energy to fight other invaders that you can’t control so the dentist can at least help you control the factors that are in your control. American Heart Association has recommendations on their website for more information about the oral -heart health relationship.
