Nutrition Awareness Month

Good nutrition choices help make happy teeth too!

Food choices are important for our bodies to function optimally and can also affect our oral health.  If eating acidic foods remember to rinse with water after and refrain from brushing your teeth for 30 min to allow demineralization. Acids will pull away minerals from your enamel making it softer and easier to brush away during that susceptible phase. The World Health Organization recommends that our intake of free sugars be less than 5% of our total energy intake. Juices should be limited in small children's diets since they tend to sip on them for prolonged periods of time causing acid exposure to teeth and frequently causing bottle caries. Water is a great neutralizer and a great source of hydration. It should be your first choice in beverages for a healthy body and smile!
